The opioid crisis has created a significant issue for patients in need of pain management. It involves a lack of access to pain medication and the stigma that pain patients have to endure. The government needs to decrease opioid production. Many pharmacies do not maintain opioid stocks and must order them when a patient requires them. Furthermore, many insurers do not cover opioid medications, which makes it incredibly challenging for patients to access these medications unless they have substantial financial resources. Unfortunately, patients are often unfairly labeled as drug-seeking addicts rather than individuals who genuinely require this medication. It’s crucial to note that most deaths related to opioids are caused by street drugs, not prescription medication. As pain patients, we must advocate for better treatment.
