Childhood trauma can take many forms, including emotional, psychological, or even neglect. It’s not always visible, but its impact can be profound and long-lasting.

It’s a complex and nuanced experience. Emotional neglect, verbal abuse, or witnessing domestic violence are just a few examples of non-physical forms of childhood trauma. The effects can manifest in various ways, influencing emotional well-being and even physical health later in life. It’s a crucial topic to address and understand to support those who have experienced such challenges.

If you’ve been through childhood trauma, have you noticed turning to television or social media apps on your phone or tablet to escape from your own thoughts? I think our most authentic moments happen when we’re alone with our thoughts. Some of us might use our phones to mindlessly scroll and distract ourselves from that authenticity, and for some, it’s a mix of both.

The act of zoning out and distracting ourselves from our thoughts is a common coping mechanism. Many of us shove those challenging thoughts down because we lack the tools to deal with or process them in a healthy way. The fear and overwhelm kick in when these thoughts resurface all at once, so we find ourselves doing everything possible to avoid facing them head-on.
