Fibromyalgia is a complex chronic pain condition characterized primarily by widespread musculoskeletal pain, tenderness in specific trigger points, and a variety of other symptoms such as fatigue, sleep disturbances, cognitive difficulties (often referred to as “fibro fog”), and mood disturbances.

A specific symptom I struggle with is slurred speech. This doesn’t happen to me all the time, but it does occur when I’m experiencing a flare-up. It can make me sound as if I’m intoxicated, with slow and labored speech. It’s like my mouth isn’t coordinating properly with my brain. I always worry that my colleagues at work might mistakenly think I’ve been drinking during the day, which is not the case.
